In 1869, Alfonso Costanzo Iaccarino was born. As soon as he was a teenager, he decided to follow his uncles overseas. In America, he did everything, including working as an assistant to professional boxers. He learned about the world. At twenty-one, he decided to return to Italy where he met Herr Brandmeier, one of the many Germans taking the "Grand Tour" without ever completing it, enchanted by the beauty of our region. Alfonso opened a hotel-restaurant with him. And so the story begins...
A few decades later, Alfonso's grandson, named after his grandfather, who had been raised in the family business, met Livia and married her in the late 1960s. In 1980, they decided to close the hotel to focus entirely on Ristorante Don Alfonso 1890, which they named after their grandfather when they founded it together in 1973. And that's when the challenge began: running a restaurant in Southern Italy using local products and extra-virgin olive oil. Their bond with the region was strengthened when they purchased "Le Peracciole" Farmhouse in 1990 so they could always have genuine and authentic products.
In 1999, Alfonso and Livia's children joined the family business. Ernesto, after having graduated in Economics and working as a manager at a multinational firm in Milan, now works primarily in the kitchen. Mario, after having studied hotel management in Geneva and working at various restaurants and hotels in France and Germany, decided to work in guest services.
That same year, Don Alfonso Consulting & Distribution was founded, a consulting firm in the catering sector with a special distribution channel for high-quality, local products.
In 2006, the latest renovations were completed at Don Alfonso 1890, which became a little village with a boutique hotel and a magnificent cooking school.
